Description
Evaluates data and risk characteristics of groups to assist in the establishment of prospect and renewal rates, working independently through initial recommendations. Trains Underwriter I on new tools as needed. The Underwriter II has demonstrated knowledge of core underwriting concepts and techniques, general health insurance and benefit and funding designs/methodology.
Formal Education Required:
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Experience & Training Required:
-Minimum 2 years of experience as a Group UW or equivalent combination of experience and training in commercial health risk lines.
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
-Word at a basic level.
-Excel at an intermediate level.
Essential Functions:
1. Evaluates prospective group risk (fully-insured) through examination of risk data. Enrolls new business following Sold case procedures.
2. Makes initial recommendations on case specific renewals based on both experience and a review of medical management notes.
3. Responds to change requests from Sales and Brokers. Assists with preparation of renewals, quotes and self-funded and/or fully-insured RFP documents.
4. Prices custom benefit plans using Milliman CORAL tailored benefit pricing tool (Large Group UW specific).
5. Analyzes medical questionnaires to score health conditions for Prospects via Web MUGs.
6. Assists with updates for the underwriting policy manual.
7. Performs all job functions with integrity. Provides timely internal and external customer service in cooperative, professional, and respectful manner.
Level of Physical Demands:

-Manual dexterity to operate computer, phone, and standard office machines.

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
